Editorial Standards

How we choose, edit and stand behind every story.

The Growth Pain is a premium storytelling and ideas platform. Readers, contributors, guests and partners trust us with their attention and their stories. This page explains how that trust is earned — and kept.

01

Our Editorial Philosophy

The Growth Pain explores authentic stories about growth, struggle, transformation and the lessons learned along the way.

We are not a hype platform, a self-help feed or a marketplace for untested advice. We are a record of the cost of becoming more — written for people who are still in the middle of it.

Every piece we publish is chosen because it carries something true: a hard moment, a real decision, a quiet transformation. We privilege honesty over polish and experience over authority.

02

Story Selection

Stories are selected through editorial review, not by algorithm and not by the highest bidder. Each one is weighed against four questions:

Authentic experience

Stories grounded in lived experience — not manufactured narratives, not second-hand commentary. Real people, real seasons, real cost.

Unique perspective

A vantage point the reader cannot easily find elsewhere. We favour the specific over the generic, the particular over the polished.

Meaningful lessons

Every story should leave the reader with something honest to carry — a question, a shift, a quiet instruction for their own season.

Relevance to the audience

We weigh whether a story speaks to the people who read us: those navigating growth across careers, business, leadership and life.

03

Editorial Independence

Sponsored partnerships do not compromise editorial integrity. Sponsorship supports the work; it never decides the work.

Partners have no influence over which stories we publish, how they are written, or whether they run at all. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled, and no sponsor reviews or approves editorial stories.

If a partnership would require us to change a story, we do not take the partnership.

04

Accuracy and Corrections

We are committed to accuracy. Every published story is checked for verifiable facts, names, dates and quotations before it runs.

When we get something wrong, we correct it — promptly, transparently and at the top of the affected piece. If you spot an error, write to editor@thegrowthpain.com and we will review it.

We do not silently rewrite history. The original and the correction both stay visible.

05

Contributor Guidelines

The Growth Pain accepts stories from external contributors. These are our expectations for anyone who submits:

  • Be honest. The value of a story lies in what it admits, not what it hides.
  • Write from experience. We do not publish unsourced opinion dressed as personal truth.
  • Respect others. Protect identities and private details unless consent is given.
  • Be original. Submitted work must be your own and not published elsewhere.
  • Expect editing. Every accepted story is shaped with an editor for clarity, length and voice.
  • Be patient. Review takes time. We respond to every earnest submission, but not always quickly.
